Workshop Description:
Join us for "Black and Neurodivergent: Interpreting for Those Who Process Information Differently." This workshop will provide measurable insights into neurodivergency by guiding attendees to define ADHD and Autism through key characteristics. Participants will analyze real-world scenarios to identify processing challenges and propose practical solutions, with a special focus on interpreting for Black individuals who are neurodivergent. Engage in a dynamic Q&A session designed to deepen your understanding and enhance your skills in navigating the intersection of neurodivergence and the Black community. Whether you're an interpreter, educator, or advocate, you'll leave with actionable strategies and a commitment to supporting diverse communication needs.
Educational Objectives:
Neurodivergency Definition: Attendees will define ADHD and Autism by listing at least three key characteristics for each.
Scenario Analysis: Attendees will identify one processing challenge in a scenario and propose one solution.
Interpreting Strategies for Neurodivergence: Attendees will list practical interpreting strategies for working with Black neurodivergent individuals.
Q&A Engagement: Each attendee will ask or answer at least one question related to neurodivergency and intersectionality.
